We are pleased to hold the Isolated Languages Workshop, the first conference devoted to the study of isolated languages, encompassing both language isolates and small language families that cannot be (straightforwardly) incorporated into larger genealogical units.
The conference will be preceded by a special course, organized by the Ghent University Doctoral School, taught by Patience Epps (UT Austin) on language typology with a focus on language contact and language change.
ISLA is supported by the BANG project (ERC, PI: Abbie Hantgan-Sonko), and will take place at Ghent University, Belgium, on March 18-19 2026.
